Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it?  But there’s something deeper here that I want you to see.  Tony Robbins is talking about his technique of “modeling”. 

No, we’re not talking about fashion modeling.  We’re talking about a unique learning technique that will undoubtedly bring you the success you crave.  That’s because if other people on the same level as you are doing it, then you can too. 

Let me explain.

Back in the 1970’s two scientists named John Grinder and Richard Bandler coined the term “modeling” and developed a comprehensive study of it in accelerating learning.

Here’s how modeling works.  First you find someone who’s already accomplished what you want to do.  It helps if that person is similar to you.  Next, you study how that person achieved that goal and then you copy their actions, exactly.  Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it?  Well it is. 

Modeling is what kids do to learn. They pick up on what you say and your actions and copy what you do.

Same thing happens with grown ups.  Ever notice yourself picking up someone else’s gestures, accent and behavior?  Whenever you do that, you’re unconsciously mirroring that person’s behavior.  You may be modeling your actions based upon what you saw that other person do.

Now modeling is a two-edged sword. 

People can use it for evil, or they can use it for good, for constructive actions like making a ton of money.  Naturally, that’s what we’re interested in, making lots of money right?  Anyways …

You can obviously begin to model someone by reading their books, watching their teaching DVD’s and going to their seminars.  That’s a good start.  But, the real power of modeling kicks in when you can actually be in that person’s presence.  That’s when the real magic happens.

Let me put it this way, it’s one thing to look a photo of the Eiffel Tower on a postcard, it’s a whole different matter actually being there.

And that’s my point to you.  To gleam the real gold from modeling, you want to be actually there with the person you’re trying to learn from.
